Indigo not only has a rich history; its unique chemical properties make the process of using this dye exciting and magical! In this class you will be introduced to indigo’s function in ancient Japanese culture, some traditional dyeing patterns, and the scientific processes involved in achieving indigo’s signature deep blue. You will be provided three pieces of cloth to die, but feel free to bring any other white, cotton garments you wish to dye. Wear clothes you are willing to get dye on (indigo doesn’t totally show up on black). All skill levels welcome. Materials fee of $14 payable to instructor at beginning of class.
